Buildings are part of our city and it provides us a living space. However, the construction and maintenance of buildings requires enormous amounts of energy, water, and materials as well as creates large amounts of waste. As a result, it creates direct or indirect impact to environment.
Moreover, after the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen, it also reveals that many countries, especially China, continue paying more efforts to resolve the climate change around the world. In facing these new environmental challenges, this seminar is launched to first introduce what can be done in our existing or new buildings to tackle the challenges in areas of engineering, facility management and property management.
Together with the HKU SPACE, the Green Council organized a series of Green Building seminars, with the first one entitled “The Overview of Policy, Design and Technology”. Details and registration can be found at http://hkuspace.hku.hk/edm/2010eDM/Feb/green_building/green_email.html.
